The Smithy
Timing/Precision Game
2024 Team Game
The Smithy is a medieval-themed timing/precision game developed in Unity. Players take on the role of the king’s personal blacksmith, tasked with forging and sharpening swords under the constant threat of execution for failure. Gameplay revolves around striking precise hit points on the blade during both the forging and grinding phases, with difficulty escalating as the timing windows shorten and markers shift unpredictably. Success requires completing five perfect swords, while too many mistakes result in the smith’s untimely death. Combining humor with pressure-driven mechanics, the game transforms the act of sword smithing into a tense challenge of focus.

On The Smithy, I led the project primarily as a designer, focusing on both gameplay structure and Unity-specific implementation. I was responsible for importing and configuring artwork, setting up texture pipelines, and building animation states. I designed the overall level layout and menus, ensuring a clear and engaging presentation for players. While guiding the project direction, I also supported the team in balancing the game’s escalating difficulty curve, ensuring the timing mechanics felt fair but punishing enough to deliver tension.
